South Texas Drilling Roundup: Webb County sees new growth in drilling applications

The South Texas Drilling Roundup is a weekly review of drilling permit applications filed with the Railroad Commission of Texas over a 67-county area of South Texas.

  • Most Active County: Webb County with 11 applications

EOG Resources Inc., a Houston-headquartered oil and natural gas company which has an office in San Antonio, filed permit applications with the Texas Railroad Commission to drill two new horizontal gas wells in the Austin Chalk. Both will have a completion depth of 11,700 feet and will be in Webb County, just over 14 miles northeast of Laredo.

According to Railroad Commission documents, Webb County had the highest individual number of applications filed this week.

Oklahoma City-based oil and natural gas company Chesapeake Operating, LLC, filed applications to drill six new oil or gas wells in the Austin Chalk 46 miles northwest of Laredo. Each is slated to have a total depth of 9,000 feet.
