South Texas Drilling Roundup: Washington County sees surge in new drilling applications

The South Texas Drilling Roundup is a weekly review of drilling permit applications filed with the Railroad Commission of Texas over a 67-county area of South Texas.

Dallas-based oil and gas exploration and production company Hyperion Oil & Gas LLC filed 14 applications for vertical drills of new oil or gas wells in the Clay Creek area. Each of the wells will be drilled between 3.3 and 4.1 miles west of Independence in Washington County. All of the wells will have a total depth of 2,000 feet, according to the applications filed with the Railroad Commission Texas.

Washington County had the highest number of applications filed this week with the Railroad Commission.

Houston-based oil and natural gas company EOG Resources Inc. – which also has an office in San Antonio — filed for Texas Railroad Commission permits to horizontally drill eight new Gonzales County oil or gas wells in the Eagle Ford Shale. Five will have a completion depth of 13,000 feet and are slated or 6.2 miles southeast of the nearest town of Smiley. Three others will be located 5.9 miles southwest of Moulton and have a completion depth of 13,000 feet.
