The South Texas Drilling Roundup is a weekly review of drilling permit applications filed with the Railroad Commission of Texas over a 67-county area of South Texas.

  • Date Range: April 25 to May 2
  • Permit Applications: 74
  • Companies Filing: 29
  • Most Active Company: Ensign Operating LLC with 14 applications
  • Most Active County: Karnes County with 18 applications

Last week, Houston-headquartered oil and natural gas exploration and production company EOG Resources Inc., which also has a division office in San Antonio, filed applications with the Texas Railroad Commission to horizontally drill five new oil or gas wells in the Eagle Ford Shale. Each has a completion depth of 10,500 feet and all are slated for 4 miles northwest of Fowlerton in La Salle County.

This comes on the heels of the company's December filing to drill seven other new oil or gas wells in La Salle County 9 miles northwest of Fowlerton. In January, EOG Resources also filed to drill eight wells across Atacosta, Webb and Gonzales counties, and in late February and early March, to drill 10 new wells in McMullen County.

Karnes County continues its multi-week lead for number of applications filed with the Railroad Commission.
