San Antonio-headquartered marketing and advertising solutions company Vericast Corp. announced Tuesday that it plans to hire 250 new positions companywide after investing an undisclosed amount in new marketing technologies.

Michael Stanush, head of people, talent, performance and culture at Vericast, told the Business Journal that the hiring decision was an outgrowth of the company's expansion. Positions available will include chief architect, software engineers, product managers and database engineers.

Vericast in January hired Chief Technology Officer Pradeep Ittycheria. He previously served as business advisor and consultant to Austin-based venture capital company Elsewhere Partners.

Stanush added that since the pandemic, the company has pivoted to become more remote-friendly, so a portion of the 250 positions will be available for remote work, while between 50 and 100 jobs will be filled by local workers.

Vericast currently has more than 5,000 employees across the country and serves thousands of customers.

While Stanush declined to specify the exact amount, the company said it invested tens of millions in rolling out new and enhanced technologies for the upcoming year, and said it is the largest investment the company made since it was relaunched in 2020.

Vericast was previously known as Harland Clarke Holdings Corp., which was founded as the Maverick-Clarke Lithograph Company in San Antonio in 1874 by Robert Clarke and Samuel Maverick. The company was an early supplier and printer of bank checks. In recent years, the company has pivoted to supplying online and direct mail marketing services leading to the 2020 relaunch.

Later this year, Vericast will launch a machine-learning platform to help mid-market clients manage customer data. It's also rolling out Partner API in Q2, a newly engineered set of application programming interfaces that gives clients more direct control of Vericast's advertising platform.

The company will be enhancing its Consumer Graph predictive intelligence technology targeting consumers in real time and messaging consumers while they browse content like sports scores and news articles. In Q2, Vericast will also begin test campaigns for its Universal Coupon initiative, partnering with brands and retailers to offer precise consumer targeting and promotional strategies. It will give users the freedom to use coupons on their phones at any participating retailer.
