New and Noteworthy:

Houston-based Burlington Resources Oil and Gas Company LP filed 10 applications in the last week to drill new horizontal oil or gas wells in DeWitt County. Five of the new wells will be in the Eagle Ford Shale, about 7 miles northeast of Ecleto and will have a total depth of 17,000 feet. Four more wells are planned in the Eagle Ford Shale about 9 miles northwest of Yorktown, each with a completion depth of 17,000 feet. The 10th well is planned for about 11 miles north of Westhoff with a completion depth of 17,500 feet.

DeWitt was the most active county for applications in the past week and saw 13 new applications. Webb County was a close second with 10. This included a horizontal drilling application for a new gas well by Lewis Petro Properties Inc., a San Antonio-based subsidiary of Lewis Energy group, to be about 30 miles northeast of Laredo with a completion depth of 11,500 feet.

This comes on the heels of five Webb County drilling applications filed last week by the San Antonio-based subsidiary, including a new well in the Austin Chalk 19.3 miles west of Laredo and four additional wells about 26.9 miles northeast of Laredo.
