Tech company Webscale Networks rolls out plans to quadruple its San Antonio presence

The company opened its San Antonio office in early 2020.

California-based Webscale Networks is rapidly expanding its San Antonio presence and — according to local executives — looking to at least quadruple its workforce in the next two or three years.

The software-as-a-service cloud platform for e-commerce, founded in California in 2012 by former IBM software engineer Jay Smith, opened its San Antonio office in early 2020.

Starting with two employees, it's now scaled up to about 10 workers and is looking to add 40 or 50 more employees in the next few years, particularly in sales, engineering and support, said Senior Director of Global Partnerships Adrian Luna, who is based out of San Antonio. Sales executives and sales engineers will be the priority hires in the upcoming months, he added. The company has 150 employees total in offices in Texas, California, Colorado, India and eastern Europe.

"Webscale doesn't just have a couple people working here," Luna said. "We would like this to be a technology hub for the company."

Although San Antonio is a smaller tech market compared to other cities, it has impressive talent, Luna said, adding that expanding into the Alamo City has provided Webscale with top-notch sales engineers, developers and infrastructure experts.

Webscale's San Antonio presence in early 2020 began in a shared workspace that the company soon outgrew. It moved into a new office at 45 Northeast Loop 410 last September. The resources invested in the San Antonio office came from a series C funding round launched at the beginning of 2021, Luna said.

Earlier this year the company launched a product in CloudEDGE technology, a content delivery network designed specifically for e-commerce that results in faster page performance, advanced security and an increase in how Google rates a site. These types of products are the focal point for Webscale in the near future, Luna said.
