Lewis Petro Properties Inc., the San Antonio-based subsidiary of Lewis Energy Group, filed five applications last week to drill new horizontal gas wells in Webb County. One of the new wells is slotted for a location in the Austin Chalk 19.3 miles west of Laredo with a completion depth of 12,000 feet. Four additional wells are planned in the Eagle Ford Shale for about 26.9 miles northeast of Laredo, each with a completion depth of 11,500 feet.

McMullen County was the most active county for applications in the past, seeing nine. GulfTex Energy, another San Antonio-based company, applied for a horizontal drill of a new oil or gas well 9.2 miles southeast of the city of Tilden, planned for a total depth of 13,500 feet. That application was submitted last Tuesday.
