South Texas Drilling Roundup: New Karnes County applications soar this week

The South Texas Drilling Roundup is a weekly review of drilling permit applications filed with the Railroad Commission of Texas over a 67-county area of South Texas.

New and Noteworthy:

Validus Energy, headquartered in Denver, filed 10 applications Thursday for new horizontal wells in Karnes County. Eight new wells are planned for a spot 8.5 miles west of Karnes City with completion depths ranging from 11,000 to 12,000 feet. Two more are planned for about 5.6 miles northwest of Karnes City, each with a total depth of 12,000 feet.

Houston-based Burlington Resources also applied in the last week to drill five new oil or gas wells in Karnes County. Texas Railroad Commission documents note that all five will be drilled in the Eagle Ford Shale about one mile northeast of the nearest town of Ecleto, each with a completion depth of 17,500 feet.

Tidal Petroleum, founded in 1990 and based in Schertz, filed last Wednesday to drill two new wells in the Austin Chalk 2 miles northeast of Hobson, both with completion depths of 11,520 feet. One is designated as either oil or gas, while the second will be permitted for oil only.
