MedCognition has named Russell Unrath as its permanent chief executive offer after serving as interim CEO.

MedCognition, founded in 2016 by Dr. Kevin King, pioneers a new medical simulation training technology known as PerSim. It helps health care professionals train with realistic simulations in classrooms and clinical spaces. The platform uses both augmented reality and holographic technology.

Unrath served as the company's interim CEO since 2020, during which time MedCognition tripled its year-to-year sales and increased the growth of new customer accounts.

“MedCognition’s trajectory over the last two years, in the midst of a pandemic no less, has been astounding, and Russell’s experience and proven leadership has been integral to our success," King said. "He will continue to drive our company to the next level in his new leadership role."

The company's plans under Unrath's leadership include augmenting IP expansion, expanding its commercial sales and diversifying its commercial product offerings.

MedCognition recently received a $400,000 grant from the National Institute of Health to develop hazardous material scenarios delivered through its augmented-reality platform. The company has also contracted with the United States Air Force's innovation technology program for $750,000 toward research and development of its augmented reality medical training platform, focused on its remote use.
