Idera Inc., the Houston-based parent company of business-to-business software productivity brands, announced Thursday that it bought San Antonio software company Filestack Inc. for an undisclosed amount.
Filestack, an upload and management service designed for developers, will now be part of Idera's "Developer Tools" business unit, alongside companies like Embarcadero, Fusion Charts, UltraEdit, Whole Tomato and others. Its platform is intended to help developers build analysis tools and automated content processing.
Sameer Kamat, CEO of Filestack since 2017, said the company helps businesses manage content at scale.
"We advanced the platform tremendously and welcome Idera’s commitment to further fueling innovation," he said. "Our customers will benefit from Idera’s accelerated development process and complementary Developer Tools products.”
He said that the acquisition will not affect or impede his team's work on expanding TINT, a user-generated social media marketing platform that Filestack acquired in late 2018.
Filestack currently powers billions of file uploads and downloads for customers across numerous industries, such as educational technology, printing and e-commerce.
Idera offers B2B software productivity tools for technical users, with three divisions — Developer Tools, Data Tools and DevOps Tools — serving more than 50,000 customers internationally in industries like health care, retail, technology and financial services.
Kegan Blumenthal, general manager of Idera's JavaScript Brands segment, said that Filestack makes content management both simple and developer-friendly.
“It is no secret that content is the backbone of all applications," she said. "Filestack equips developers with a quick and robust (application programming interface) to enable all types of content upload management in their applications. Filestack complements our portfolio, and I am confident our growing community of developers will embrace its simplicity and power.”
Filestack, originally called Filepicker, was founded by Massachusetts Institute of Technology alumni in 2012. In 2015, it was acquired by San Antonio-based venture equity fund Scaleworks and added to its portfolio.
