USAA hires new enterprise chief information officer and chief security officer

USAA, one of the largest in employers in San Antonio, has hired two new tech executives to help lead the company's "technological transformation."

Amala Duggirala will serve as the executive vice president and enterprise chief information officer and Jason Witty will report to Duggirala as senior vice president and chief security officer.

In her new role, Duggirala will oversee 6,000 employees in the data, technology, security and third party management sectors. She will also serve on USAA's executive council that reports directly to the CEO, according to the new release.

Duggirala's previous role was as chief operations and technology officer at Regions Bank, where she worked for five years. While at Regions Bank, Duggirala was named to Forbes' inagural CIO Next 2021 list. She also has fintech and telecom experience at Kabbage, ACI Worldwide and British Telecommunications.

"Amala is one of the leading strategists in technology, and we are thrilled to leverage her industry expertise and passion for developing people to lead USAA's technology transformation," said President and CEO Wayne Peacock in a news release from the company. "Her enthusiasm and innovative spirit are the perfect match for USAA as we continue to build innovative products and services for our members and teammates into our second century."

Witty has 28 years of experience and previously served as the chief information officer of cybersecurity and technology control and global chief information security officer at J.P. Morgan Chase, where he led 3,300 people in 23 countries. He also held leadership positions at U.S. Bancorp and Bank of America. Witty was named to the 2021 CSO Hall of fame and received recognition as the ISE North America Executive of the Year and ISE Centrals People's Choice Award.

As senior vice president and chief security officer, Witty will oversee information security, privacy, physical security, operational resiliency, crisis management and corporate investigations.

In the San Antonio metro area, USAA has 59.68% of the marketshare, the largest of any other company in the area with $101.2 billion deposits, according to the FDIC's June 2021 market report.
