San Francisco-based residential solar installer Sunrun Inc. plans a permanent layoff of 50 employees at its Sacramento location in early October.

Sunrun’s (Nasdaq: RUN) local office is at 1215 Striker Ave., in an industrial and warehouse area of North Sacramento.

"We continuously review and update staffing to fit the needs of the customers and markets we serve," said Wyatt Semanek, director of corporate communications with Sunrun, in an email. "This business decision does not affect existing Sunrun customers in Sacramento. They will continue to receive service and system maintenance without interruption."

The reduction in staff is effective Oct. 2, according to a filing with the California Employment Development Department.

Sunrun designs, develops, installs and maintains solar panel generation and home electric storage systems. It is not tied to any single manufacturer. It also sells, makes loans on and leases solar and storage systems.

Sunrun reported second-quarter revenue of $590.2 million, up 1% from a year earlier. The company's net loss for the quarter grew to $390.7 million from $209.8 million.

In July 2020, Sunrun was already the country's largest residential solar provider when it bought Utah-based Vivint Solar, which was the other leading publicly traded home solar provider.
