Australian company Computershare Ltd. is buying Sacramento-based SunDoc Filings, in a deal expected to close in the coming weeks.

SunDoc Filings offers business services, including filing incorporation papers.

“The acquisition of SunDoc, our fourth in the entity compliance space since 2020, will expand Computershare’s registered agent footprint, specifically on the West Coast, and enhance the services we provide,” said Andrew Moore, president at Computershare Governance Services Inc., in a news release.

SunDoc, founded in Sacramento in 1999, has its headquarters near California State University Sacramento. It was founded to be a web-based company backed up with customer support, according to its website.

Computershare Governance Services is a wholly owned subsidiary of Computershare Ltd., which is based in Melbourne, Australia. Its stock is traded on the Australian Securities Exchange, and it had more than 14,000 employees at the end of last year. Computershare has grown through acquisitions to have operations in more than 20 countries, where it operates stock registration and transfer services and technology services to investor services.

SundDoc provides services for businesses including creating a California corporation, incorporating a business in any of the 50 states, forming a limited liability corporation, forming a nonprofit and filing annual reports or statements. It also offers nationwide filing and retrieval services to law firms, CPAs, escrow and small businesses.

“SunDoc has established a great reputation within the industry, and bringing their highly experienced team on board will allow us to provide even greater coverage to our collective clients," Moore said.

"In the face of an increasingly complex regulatory environment, corporations, law firms and other providers are more than ever seeking innovative approaches to these challenges,” said Moore. “We have had tremendous positive reaction to our integrated entity solutions offering and we continue to disrupt the decades-old status quo in this industry.”

Neither SunDoc or Computershare representatives returned calls from the Business Journal seeking further information about the deal.
