A still-new ghost kitchen on Elvas Avenue in Sacramento has nearly filled its allotment of spaces for local restaurateurs, but expansion plans are going a different direction.
Under a proposal with the city, The Line would add an indoor/outdoor beer garden at 6401 Elvas, next to its existing site at 6415 Elvas Ave.
"While we will be opening a 'beer garden,' our plan is to operate an indoor/outdoor space that will function as a food hall, as well," said Adam Ono, general manager for The Line, in an email. He said the beer garden will serve low-alcohol and nonalcoholic drinks along with beer and wine specifically curated to go with food options from tenants at the ghost kitchen.
According to the application, the new beer garden would be about 3,300 square feet, between two existing former auto repair/storage buildings on the property.
The existing buildings would serve as service bars and restrooms, though customers would use a mobile app to order food from The Line next door, and pick it up there.
Plans in the application show wooden benches grouped around fire pits at the beer garden, with covered areas next to the existing buildings. There would also be five vehicle parking spaces and bike parking.
"Our mission is to provide a comfortable and inclusive space for everyone with an appetite or a thirst," Ono said.
Craig Hausman, principal of Hausman Architecture, is the project applicant, though Sutter Capital Group, which developed The Line, is the project developer for the beer garden as well.
A ghost kitchen is a facility where food is prepared for delivery or takeout. Ghost kitchens, also known as virtual kitchens, typically have several small kitchens in a single building for lease.
Ali Managhebi, a managing partner at Sutter Capital, said The Line recently added more local restaurants to its lineup, including Binchoyaki, Nixtaco, Pure Soul Plant-based Eats, The Hive by Sac City Brews and Hao Bao Dumplings. All should open in the next 30 to 60 days, he said in an email.
Those eateries will join previously announced businesses that include sushi restaurant Kru Contemporary Japanese Cuisine, Cuban-Mexican-Latin food truck operator Gondo Fusion and hot chicken restaurant Nash & Proper.
"We are having discussions with a few other operators that we feel would be a great addition to the lineup and will occupy the remaining two spaces," Managhebi said.
