A locally based agricultural technology company currently based in West Sacramento is planning to relocate its headquarters to Davis in 2023.

Biome Makers Inc., which is developing sustainable farming techniques through a multidisciplinary approach to soil science, announced it plans to move its headquarters into a 4,200-square-foot location at 202 Cousteau Place in Davis, inside the approximately 106,000-square-foot Mace Ranch Corporate Centre.

The company currently operates out of Bayer Crop Science's CoLaborator coworking space in West Sacramento, but was in need of additional space.

"Our new larger facility was the necessary next step as we needed to expand our laboratory to reduce turnaround time, serve new clients and adapt to the growing global demand of BeCrop technology," said Adrian Ferrero, co-founder and CEO of Biome Makers, in a news release.

BeCrop is a smart agriculture genetic soil assessment collection kit, which is used in more than 40 countries, according to the company. Biome Makers developed the proprietary product in recent years, along with Gheom, which measures the effectiveness of soil inputs such as fertilizers and crop protection products.

Ferrero said the decision to stay in California will allow the company to better support its clients in the area and engage with Davis' strong agricultural community.

The new headquarters is currently under construction and expected to be ready for operations in January 2023.

Biome Makers launched in San Francisco in 2015 and was the first tenant to join the coworking space in West Sacramento in 2018. The company uses genetics, software engineering, microbiology, agronomy and data science to help farmers monitor soil health.

Last year, the Business Journal reported Biome Makers raised $15 million in a venture capital funding round. The plan was to use the funds in the company's next phase of growth, accelerating the global expansion of BeCrop for soil analysis and soil health recovery and expanding the use of Gheom.
