A luxury electric vehicle manufacturer appears to be interested in joining Rocklin's "Toy Row" next year.

Lucid Group Inc. (Nasdaq: LCID) is an electric vehicle manufacturer based in Newark. The company says it's focused on setting new standards with the longest-range, fastest-charging electric car on the market.

During his State of the City address this week, Rocklin Mayor Bill Halldin said Lucid Motors is proposing a service center and showroom along Granite Drive, according to a transcript of his speech.

Lucid Motors' website states it plans to establish a studio and service center at 4425 Granite Drive in Rocklin, with the project listed as coming in winter 2023.

The auto manufacturer's studios are retail locations where customers see the products and learn more about the company. They also come equipped with a virtual reality configurator that allows customers to view products and personalize them with their choice of interior finishes, materials and exterior color, according to a news release.

"The city of Rocklin has issued building permits for tenant improvement work at the site on Granite Drive," said Michael Young, a spokesperson for Rocklin, in an email. "The city is excited for Lucid to bring their operations and innovative vehicles to the Rocklin market."

The stretch along Granite Drive in Rocklin known as "Toy Row" is the home to several retailers of big-ticket items such as luxury vehicles, boats, recreational vehicles and motorcycles. Businesses along the corridor are visible from Interstate 80.

Lucid Motors is currently in the process of opening its 28th studio and service center in North America, which is set to open in Seattle this weekend.

The company is the maker of the Lucid Air, which was named as the 2022 MotorTrend Car of the Year. Lucid Air models range from $87,400 to $154,000. The vehicle's battery can be charged up for 300 miles in approximately 20 minutes, according to its website.

The company is also developing an electric SUV called Project Gravity.

Lucid Motors was originally founded in 2007 as Atieva Inc., which focused on developing batteries and electric powertrains for other manufacturers. In 2016, the company shifted its focus to building an all-electric sedan and rebranded. The company is led by CEO Peter Rawlinson, who is a former chief engineer of Tesla's Model S program.

Representatives of Lucid Motors did not respond for comment on Friday.
