A new technology company with roots in Intel Corp. and South Korean memory chip maker SK hynix has taken office and laboratory space in Rancho Cordova.

The new company is called Solidigm. It was created in December when SK hynix bought Intel's (Nasdaq: INTC) flash memory business.

“Solidigm is very pleased to bring innovation and jobs to Rancho Cordova and the greater Sacramento area,” said Ellen Doller, Solidigm chief operating officer, in a news release. “We will invest in the area to support economic growth through jobs, partnerships and volunteerism, and we look forward to being an active part of the community.”

Based in San Jose, Solidigm has nearly 2,000 employees in 20 locations around the world.

In Rancho Cordova, Solidigm is creating office space for some of the teams it picked up from Intel’s Folsom campus and potentially other locations.

Those groups include engineering, sales, marketing, communications, human resources, operations and finance, among others, said spokeswoman Catherine Roberts.

She didn’t say how many employees Rancho Cordova would get.

"Since many details are still being worked out, we are not sharing specifics at this time,” Roberts said via email.

“Since we are no longer a part of Intel, we are in the process of standing up our own Solidigm locations where we don’t already have space,” she said. “Since we are just four months old as a company, this looks different globally — with some employees still working from Intel sites as we look for space, and others transitioning or already moved.”

SK hynix is a South Korean supplier of dynamic random-access memory chips and flash memory chips. It's the world's second-largest maker of memory chips.

The Solidigm teams are expected to move into the Rancho Cordova spaces in the first quarter of 2023.

Intel employs about 6,000 people at its Folsom campus, which includes 1.5 million square feet of office, test floor and lab space. It's one of the Santa Clara-based company’s largest office sites.
