Telus International Inc. has announced a permanent layoff of 87 employees at its offices at 255 Parkshore Drive in Folsom.
The state’s Employment Development Department got the notice earlier this month, and the effective date is June 30.
“In April, Telus informed a group of team members working from our Folsom site that their roles on a specific client account would end on June 30,” said an email from Telus’ media department.
The company said it is working with all affected workers to move to open roles or to apply for other positions. Telus (NYSE: TIXT) said the Folsom site remains open. The company didn’t say how many employees work in Folsom.
In 2016, Voxpro Group LLC, then based in Dublin, Ireland, established a technology-oriented call center and customer support operation in Folsom. Voxpro was acquired by Telus in 2017. Telus is based in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The Folsom site has seen disruption before, when its customers have changed their business models. In 2019, the Folsom site announced a layoff of 238 employees when what was then its largest customer, Nest Labs, changed its strategy related to customer support services.
Telus operates 53 centers in 28 countries, and it supports more than 50 languages, according to its website. Its other U.S. locations are in Las Vegas and South Carolina.
Telus reported net income of $34 million in the first quarter this year on revenue of $599 million, compared with net income of $3 million on revenue of $505 million in the same period the previous year.
