Renewable energy company SPI Energy Co. Ltd. has moved its headquarters from Santa Clara to Sacramento.
SPI Energy (Nasdaq: SPI) at the end of last year said it took over the lease of the U.S. manufacturing arm of China-based Sunergy Co., called Sunergy America LLC, which had a 140,000-square-foot manufacturing plant at McClellan Park at 4801 Urbani Ave.
The new SPI Energy headquarters is at 4803 Urbani Ave. at McClellan Park.
SPI Energy is a global company focused on solar, storage and electric vehicle products for business, residential and utility customers.
“As sales continue to grow from our increasing production capacity at our solar module manufacturing facility in Northern California, relocating our global headquarters to within close proximity to these operations provides tremendous strategic value, creating positive synergies across our solar and renewable energy business development efforts,” said SPI Energy CEO Xiaofeng Denton Peng, in a news release.
The move of the headquarters from the Bay Area to Sacramento is somewhat of a return home for the company, which has its roots in Roseville and Granite Bay.
SPI started in Roseville in 2006 as Solar Power Inc., manufacturing solar panels in China and installing solar-power systems in the United States, Europe and Asia. That company was majority bought out by a Chinese company in 2011, which moved the headquarters to the Bay Area. SPI Energy took over the rest of SPI in 2016.
SPI Energy has three primary divisions, including residential solar, commercial and utility solar and EdisonFuture/Phoenix Motor, divisions that make electric trucks and cars in Southern California.
SPI Energy has operations in North America, Australia, Asia and Europe.
The company didn’t respond to calls from the Business Journal for comment.
