Retail giant Amazon.com Inc. plans to open a grocery store in Elk Grove, a recent public filing shows.

Amazon Retail LLC has applied for alcohol licenses for an Amazon Fresh store at 7530 Elk Grove Blvd., according to records from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

The address appears to put the store in The Ridge, a retail center on the southeast corner of Elk Grove Boulevard and Bruceville Road in Elk Grove. Leasing materials for the center, which is owned by an entity of Pappas Investments, have shown an unnamed grocery store of 40,000 square feet.

Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN) spokesperson Natalie Banke declined to confirm a possible Elk Grove grocery store.

The Amazon Fresh grocery concept is a brick-and-mortar store that sells items ranging from meat and produce to prepared foods. Amazon's website lists more than 20 grocery store locations, not including Elk Grove.

Amazon has applied for two types of alcohol licenses for the Elk Grove store, records show. One license would allow customers to buy alcohol to drink off-site. The other license would allow the store to offer "the tasting of beer, wine and/or distilled spirits," according to ABC records.

An Amazon Fresh store might also be in the works in Roseville, public records show. Construction work is underway at a former Toys R Us store space at 6780 Stanford Ranch Road, near the intersection of Stanford Ranch Road and Highway 65. Plans are in the works to install signs for Amazon Fresh at the address, according to Roseville city records.

In addition, Sacramento County records have shown an unnamed grocery store planned at Country Club Centre at Watt and El Camino avenues in Arden-Arcade. A term that Amazon.com Inc. has used as a code name previously appeared on public records associated with that store.

Earlier this year, Amazon confirmed plans to open a grocery store in the Sacramento area but did not specify an address for the project.
