Sacramento-based organic food delivery service Trifecta has reached a deal to be the official meal delivery partner of Boulder, Colorado-based CrossFit LLC, whose workout regimen is used in more than 6,000 affiliated gyms in the U.S.

Trifecta makes and ships complete cooked and vacuum-packed meals nationwide for fitness-minded consumers and those with special diets.

“This partnership is very aligned with our product and their community,” Trifecta spokesman Bradley Hartman told the Business Journal.

The partnership includes Trifecta’s sponsorship of CrossFit’s NOBULL CrossFit Games, in which hundreds of thousands of athletes compete.

Trifecta will also be mentioned in CrossFit’s social media, publishing and online programs, Hartman said.

The CrossFit season starts this week, and CrossFit will produce digital content featuring Trifecta and its meal programs, he said. The two companies plan to develop co-branded meals to serve CrossFit athletes.

“CrossFit continues to be a perfect partner for us as we both strive to support elite athletes and help millions of people improve their health, happiness and performance,” said Greg Connolly, founder and CEO of Trifecta, in a news release.

Last summer, Trifecta raised $20 million in growth funding from investors led by Boston-based venture capital firm Spring Lake Equity Partners.

Trifecta was ranked fourth locally in the Business Journal's Fastest Growing Companies list, with about $77 million in 2020 revenue. The company no longer discloses revenue, Hartman said.

Trifecta currently has 100 employees based out of Sacramento, up from 82 when it got the funding. Trifecta also employs many in Southern California, where it makes and ships its meals, but the company no longer discloses that employee count, Hartman said. Two years ago, the Anaheim operation had about 450 employees.

Trifecta delivers meals via UPS, FedEx and other logistics companies. The food is not frozen, but it is packed in cooled packaging, Hartman said.

The company sends its meals in sustainable packaging, and what plastic it does use is recyclable, he said.

Trifecta allows customers to choose from a menu of meals for a variety of specific diets, such as keto, paleo, vegan, vegetarian, clean eating and classic.

Trifecta was founded in 2015. Since 2016, it's formed strategic partnerships with sports leagues and entities, including F45 Training, the American Heart Association, Spartan Races, Team USA Weightlifting and the Mr. Olympia bodybuilding contest.

CrossFit is in 13,000 affiliated gyms in more than 150 countries, but Trifecta only sends food in the U.S.
