Sacramento-based organic meal delivery company Trifecta Inc. has hired its first chief financial officer, Karen Townsend, a veteran of several high-growth consumer brand companies.

The appointment follows Trifecta’s announcement in August that it raised $20 million in growth capital in a funding round led by Boston-based venture capital firm Spring Lake Equity Partners.

“We are beyond thrilled to welcome Karen to the Trifecta team,” said Greg Connolly, co-founder and CEO at Trifecta, in a news release. “She is exceptionally skilled in all aspects of financial operations, and most notably highly effective in leading and managing corporate strategies and driving financial performance.”

Trifecta makes and ships complete cooked and vacuum-packed meals nationwide for fitness-minded consumers or those with special diets.

Townsend is a certified public accountant, and she started her career working for accounting firm PwC in Southern California. She was also CFO at Sole Technology Inc., the makers of skate-shoe brand Etnies, as well as being CFO at childhood education company Lakeshore Learning Materials and women’s fashion goods company Brighton Collectibles, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Asked if the hiring of Townsend signals any move or plans to move toward an initial public offering, Trifecta spokesman Bradley Hartman said, via email, “We don't speak too much to plans or product roadmap, however, we look at all possibilities which could potentially grow our business.”

Trifecta was ranked fourth locally in the Business Journal's Fastest Growing Companies list, with about $77 million in revenue at the end of 2020.

Trifecta was founded in 2015 to make and send nutritionally balanced meals to athletes and those concerned about a healthy diet. It makes fully prepared meals and delivers them via UPS, FedEx and other logistics companies. It allows customers to choose from a menu of meals for a variety of specific diets, such as keto, paleo, vegan, vegetarian, clean eating and classic. The meals are never frozen, but they need to stay refrigerated as they are shipped to all 50 states.
