Just two years after launching, WayForth is growing once again through – you guessed it – an acquisition deal.

The Richmond-based estate management startup is acquiring senior relocation company TAD to stretch its arm into the D.C. area and beyond.

The acquisition of Gaithersburg, Md.-based TAD adds 72 employees to WayForth, formerly called Legacy Navigator, bringing its total to 110 full-time and 100 part-time staffers.

It comes just a week after WayForth scooped up 15-year-old Richmond firm Door to Door Solutions, one of Central Virginia's largest senior-focused moving companies.

"We now have more people with more experience serving more seniors and communities than any other player in the senior relocation industry," co-founder and CEO Craig Shealy said in an email to Inno. "Like Door to Door in Richmond, TAD provides a full-service relocation solution for seniors in D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia, and brings great people and experience to our family of companies."

All of TAD's employees are moving under the WayForth umbrella and will remain in their DMV offices. Shealy said the deal gives the startup coverage from Philadelphia to Charlotte, with further East Coast expansion plans in the works.

Wayforth was co-founded by Shealy and Matt Paxton, who previously founded Clutter Cleaner and hosted A&E TV series “Hoarders.” Shealy said the string of acquisitions is a kind of recruiting strategy.

“We found that it makes a lot more sense to add value as a platform to support these businesses in other ways, and integrate our additional services like financing," he said in an interview last week. "We think that it’s going to make sense recruiting or acquiring teams that have proven successful in local markets, and we’ll continue to do more of those things.”
