Bird Global said Monday it was partnering with Lyft Inc. to bring the company’s rental scooters to the ride-hailing app in more than 25 cities, including Richmond.

The expansion builds upon Lyft’s partnership with Spin, an electric bicycle and scooter sharing company that was acquired by Bird last year.

With the new arrangement, riders can rent and pay for Bird scooters on the Lyft app without needing a separate app or a different payment.

Riders in Richmond can tap the scooter icon at the bottom of the Lyft app to see available rentals nearby — and Bird scooters can now be unlocked via the Lyft app by scanning a QR code. Scooters available to Lyft customers will have a Lyft sticker on them.

“We continue to find new ways to integrate into like-minded urban transportation solutions such as those provided by Lyft, as our ultimate goal is to make it just as easy to get around cities via multimodal transportation as it is with a personal car,” Stewart Lyons, co-CEO of the Bird and Spin brands, said in a statement.

Harrisonburg, Virginia, home of James Madison University, is also among the new cities where Bird is now available on the Lyft app.

Bird said it expected to announce more cities where the Bird-Lyft integration is available in the weeks ahead.
