Two Richmond companies — Babylon Micro-Farms and TemperPack — were recently named to a Time magazine ranking of the country’s top greentech companies for 2024.
The list, which was compiled with German firm Statista, highlights the country’s top sustainability-focused companies based on their environmental impact, financial strength and innovation. Time and Statista looked a data points such as a company’s intellectual property portfolio, industry-specific environmental figures and revenue and funding.
TemperPack, which specializes in environmentally friendly packaging materials, ranked No. 43 on the list of the country’s top 250 greentech companies, while Babylon, a vertical hydroponic farming company, came in at No. 73.
TemperPack landed $140 million in equity financing in 2022 and last year brought on Peter Wells as its new CEO to craft a new vision for the company’s immediate future.
Babylon completed an $8 million Series A round last year to boost its operations and grow its market share. Earlier this month, the company showed TechCrunch its new STEM Garden, a vertical farming unit available at a lower price point that’s targeted toward classrooms.
Also making the Time list: Hexagon Energy, a Charlottesville clean energy company focused on harnessing solar, wind, wave, biomass and geothermal power. It also works in energy storage. It ranked No. 76.
