DataShapes, a signals and waveforms intelligence company, is making a big move to Virginia.

The San Francisco firm on Tuesday said it is relocating its headquarters to Charlottesville. The company said the move is aimed at facilitating the company’s focus on electronic warfare and intelligence work for U.S. government and defense organizations.

The new headquarters will be at the UVA North Fork Research Park near the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport.

"Charlottesville has emerged as a hub for innovation, attracting top companies from Silicon Valley,” Logan Selby, co-founder, president and CEO of DataShapes, said in a statement. “Its proximity to Washington, D.C., underscores the crucial nature of our collaboration with government and defense organizations to help them gather and disperse intelligence contained in signals and waveforms.”

Selby added that the Charlottesville tech community and proximity to schools like the University of Virginia provide his company with “access to a diverse pool of talent.”

The company develops AI-powered software for deployable devices, including in the sea and in space, that can unlock intelligence from signals and waveforms. It says its software can provide immediate information to companies that are protecting and maintaining essential infrastructure. Along with defense organizations, DataShapes said its technology is also useful in industries like telecommunications.

I’ve reached out to Selby for more information about the move and will update this post when I hear back.

DataShapes has received $11 million in funding since its founding in 2018, according to Crunchbase, including a $5 million investment from Berg Venture Capital in 2022.
