Richmond paratransit company Uzurv has raised $34.8 million in equity funding, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
The round includes five investors and the first sale related to the round was recorded on Dec. 6, according to the mid-February filing.
Uzurv declined to comment on the funding.
Uzurv integrates gig-based ridesharing for people with disabilities or the elderly into public transit systems, providing alternative transportation for people who cannot utilize buses or trains. Paratransit is often considered a “safety net” for those with disabilities and is required under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Last year, it was integrated into the public bus system in Chicago and its surrounding counties — the country’s fourth-biggest bus network. It also provides transportation for senior centers and elder care organizations.
“The goal is to roll service out across the country,” Chief Technology Officer Phil Bayer told us last year. “We want to be in large and mid-sized markets and eventually smaller, rural markets.”
