CarMax to open an innovation center in Richmond's midtown

CarMax has confirmed that the company’s new Richmond-based technology innovation center is opening Sept. 7 at the Sauer Center on West Broad Street. 

In addition to the center's opening, CarMax plans to hire 200 hybrid or fully remote technology positions, including software engineers, architects, technology managers and technology analysts, according to a company spokeswoman. The positions will be a mix of hybrid associates based out of the new Dallas technology innovation center, hybrid associates based out of the Richmond technology innovation center and 100% remote associates.

“To support company growth and digital innovation, we are focused on hiring the best technology talent across the country to develop the most customer-centric experience in the industry,” she told Inno. 

The news comes as the national automotive retailer announced the expansion of its Dallas, Texas footprint through a new technology innovation center that’s opening there. 

CarMax Executive Vice President and Chief Information and Technology Officer Shamim Mohammad said the company is, “looking for innovators who can help redefine what the future of car buying looks like.” 

Mohammad said becoming part of the Dallas tech community can achieve that. 

“Dallas has built itself up to become a ripe tech and digital environment, and we’re excited to tap into the regional talent and beyond who can help us continue innovating at an accelerated pace,” he said.
