We’ve compiled an updated list of the coworking spaces in town where you can rent out office space, typically on flexible terms, and we've added crucial information, such as location, cost, amenities and who each place is generally best suited for.

The Coworking Spaces

Balance RVA

Location: 10431 Patterson Ave., Henrico, Va. 23238

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Cost: Part-time and full-time memberships, dedicated desks, private offices and an option for onsite childcare are available at Balance RVA. See pricing here.

Amenities: Parking, WiFi, conference rooms, smart boards, fitness rooms, sound therapy, massage days, cooking classes, event space, soundproof podcast booth, video/photography room, coffee and tea, business coaching, access to childcare and wellness services and more.

What you should know: "We exist to support all aspects of our members' physical, emotional and mental health. We believe that self-care is critical to achieving both personal and professional success, and that you are more likely to take care of yourself if you don't have to miss a meeting, arrange for childcare, or drive across town. So from traditional coworking amenities such as conference rooms and commercial office equipment, to unique wellness resources such as healthy cooking classes, sound therapy and even on-site childcare, we bring it all together to help you become the best possible version of yourself."

The Broad

Location: 209 N Foushee St., Richmond, Va. 23220

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Amenities: Members get discounts at local businesses, two free weekly yoga classes, 24/7 access, weekly office hours with an in-house lawyer, CPA, financial planner and operations consultant, unlimited Lamplighter coffee, member-only social events and more. 

What you should know: The Broad is specifically targeted at women and boasts 3,500 sq. ft. of multipurpose space, including communal workspace. They also offer the option to rent out their space for private meetings or photoshoots. The Boardroom is available all week for rentals and features a private bathroom and WIFI network, as well as an in-house projector, whiteboard walls and flexible tables. The Boardroom can be rented for $350 for a half day and $650 for a full day. The 3rd floor Salon is available on select evenings and all weekend for baby and bridal showers, receptions, parties, etc., and ranges in price from $700 to $1,000 per event.

Build, RVA

Location: 3301-C Rosedale Ave., Richmond, Va. 23230

Hours: Monday-Friday, Noon to 7 p.m., Weekends, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Amenities: 3D printing, vinyl cutting and woodshop and access to equipment such as LASERs, CNC equipment, welding and metal working for an additional cost.

What you should know: Build, RVA is a community space and product incubator and provides tools, resources and knowledge that might be necessary for a science-based production project.

Dominion Energy Innovation Center 

Location: 201 S Duncan St., Ashland, Va. 23005

Hours: Monday-Friday, Noon to 7 p.m., Weekends, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Amenities: Both memberships include access to flexible workspace, high speed internet, copy/fax/scanner, class and event discounts, 24/7 access and free parking. The Incubator membership specifically adds on preferred conference room reservations, better access to mentors, website and press exposure and more interaction with facility directors. The facility also features a design area, podcast and multimedia room, small and large conference rooms and specific breakout rooms.

What you should know: The Innovation Center is based in Ashland and is targeted at small businesses starting up out of Hanover County and markets itself on the access members have to mentors and resources to grow their business from within the center.

Gather

Location: Gather has three locations in Richmond, with a fourth opening in Midlothian in the second half of 2020.

The Highpoint

Location: 3300 W Broad St., Richmond, Va. 23230

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cost: Event space, a classroom for lectures and meetings and a 100 sq. ft. soundproof music room (equipped with a piano) are available at The Highpoint. Inquire here

Amenities: Dedicated offices, workshops, workspace and studio space are available upon request.

What you should know: The Highpoint is targeted at local artists and creative professionals. However, all long-term rental spaces are currently under lease.

Novel Coworking

Location: 11 S. 12th St., Richmond, Va. 23219

Hours: Open 24/7

Amenities: Espresso bar, internet and WiFi, personalized office space with furniture, conference and event space, mail service and more. 

What you should know: Based in Chicago, Novel previously operated as Level Offices before rebranding. With Novel membership, you also get access to happy hours, community events and networking opportunities.

Office Alternatives

Pinq 

Location: 1 W Cary St., Richmond, Va. 23220

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

What you should know: Pinq is specifically marketed toward women-owned businesses and offers extended services like business coaching, brand and social media management, online operations management and a mentorship/networking club. Pinq also offers online business courses and a monthly subscription service with personalized business tools.

What you should know: "Work in a shared office at any of our locations across the world. Co-working gives you the benefit of a full-time office, but you only pay for the number of desks you use. Choose your own permanent desk or sit wherever you’d like each day through a hot-desking setup, available on a first come, first served basis."

RVA Createspace

Location: 607 Wickham St., Richmond, Va.23222

Amenities: High-speed internet, workshops, art studios, machine shop, photo studio, urban gardening, kombucha, hydroponics, kitchen space and more.

What you should know: "Createspace opened in January 2016 in an underutilized industrial warehouse. With a small initial membership, we got to work renovating the building to make it useful for small businesses, makers, and artists. After nearly 2 years serving the community, Createspace has provided affordable studios for dozens of artists, makers, and helped incubate some notable local small business."

Studio Two Three 

Location: 3300 W Clay St., Richmond, Va. 23230

Hours: Monday-Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cost: Communal studio memberships, dark room memberships and private studios are available. See pricing here

Amenities: Use of print shop and all equipment, 24/7 access, a communal kitchen, wifi, private meeting space, worktables for 2D work and use of digital lab and resource library, discounts on classes, and more. 

What you should know: Studio Two Three is set up to prioritize printmaking, paper arts and photography. Therefore, membership at the studio cannot support oil or acrylic painting or ceramics. Also, due to capacity, members should expect to work in different spots depending on the day rather than claiming a consistent workspace.

Venture X

Location: 1806 Summit Ave., Suite 300, Richmond, Va. 23230

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Amenities: High-speed internet, notary on site, coffee and tea, meeting rooms, café, lounge, phone booths, event space, 24/7 access, printing, networking events and more.

What you should know: Venture X offers a Broker Referral program that offers residuals for client registration and a Member Referral program.

Work & Friends Studios

Location: 1623 W. Broad St., Richmond, Va. 23220

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Amenities: Internet, 24/7 access, free Blanchard’s coffee, discounted use of their conference room, a dog-friendly workspace, access to a network of partner coworking spaces across the country, rooftop, outdoor living room, event space and more.

What you should know: This space was formed by the owner of Work Labs and the founder of 804RVA, which is being rebranded as the Work Studios space. The old 804RVA building at 1657 W. Broad St. will remain open as an additional facility for the brand, with a focus on space for private offices, events, meetings and training. Members also have access to a special community rooftop with an “outdoor living room.”
