Health care ride-booking platform Roundtrip continues its upward climb with a $4 million capital raise.

The company, founded in Richmond in 2016, is an online marketplace that allows health care professionals to order rides for patients. The startup connects patients with non-emergency rides such as rideshare vehicles, medical sedans and wheelchair vans. The goal is to create a safe and reliable transportation option for patients, while cutting down on patient no-shows.

Zack Worsham, Roundtrip content strategist, said the raise closed earlier this month and is a strategic extension of the company's Series A round. The $4 million brings Roundtrip's total funding to $10.5 million.

Worsham said the raise will allow the company to scale geographically and "specialize its sales, implementation and account management model, expand its health plan portfolio and technology integration capabilities and grow the Roundtrip community."

"Ultimately, the strategic raise will enable Roundtrip to expand its 'category of one' position as the most experienced and comprehensive solution for non-emergency medical transportation in the United States," he added.

Earlier this summer, Roundtrip was awarded a $252,000 grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse that allows the company in partnership with the University of Pennsylvania, Lyft and Contra Costa Health Services, to evaluate the impact of its holistic transportation coordination platform, predominantly leveraging Lyft’s rideshare service, on appointment show rates and patient satisfaction for patients with opioid use disorder.

Roundtrip has offices in both Richmond and Philadelphia.
