Kamana Health, a developer of software that connects employers to healthcare professionals, announced it has landed an investment from the Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) CIT GAP Funds.

The Richmond-based company did not disclose the financial terms of the funding, but the investment will go toward supporting product road map items, including in-app communication, integrations that facilitate rapid candidate submissions and additional talent management processes.

"We're proud to have CIT behind us, as they're consistently on the forefront of technology innovation in the state of Virginia and beyond. A partnership with CIT is a great fit as we work diligently to introduce a new era of technology innovation into the healthcare staffing industry," Dave Dworschak, CEO of Kamana, told Richmond Inno. "We're planning to double our team over the next 12 months, with a first hire on the technology side coming during the first couple of months in 2020."

CIT GAP Funds specialize in making seed-stage equity investments in Virginia-based technology, particularly in the software, semiconductors, security, e-commerce, networking and electronics sectors.

Kamana Health was founded by healthcare strategists, travel nurses and developers, and it was created to streamline the hiring process for these individuals. The industry-specific nature of the platform makes easier the processes of application, on-boarding and storing of private data while employees navigate their travel career and contracts.

The platform is free to use for candidates and charges a subscription for staffing agencies.

“Kamana’s founders know from experience how inefficiencies impact the healthcare workforce, and the ability to swiftly connect with a flexible talent pool is crucial for employers. In response, we created the best, safest onboarding experience in contract healthcare,” Dworschak said in a statement. “We are dedicated to supporting both innovative healthcare employers, as well as individual healthcare professionals who need to manage their careers and keep their personal data safe.”

Just this year, Kamana Health competed in the 2019 Big Launch Challenge pitch competition in Danville, Va., joined the fall 2019 Lighthouse Labs accelerator cohort and won the 757 Pitch competition in Norfolk. It was also named one of Richmond Inno's Startups to Watch in 2020 earlier this week.
