Looking to move to the cloud or implement a microservice? Or how about create a new application that can scale quickly?

If your company falls in either of these categories, then Pawtucket-based Kenzan is who you should call for assistance.

The full service, custom software development shop and digital consulting firm assists companies in a variety of industries in building and implementing a technology strategy that drives real business value.

“The tech community is growing fast here and we’re excited to be a part of it, share what we’ve learned and to build a diverse, inclusive community.”

With 130 employees and nearly 15 years of experience, the company can perform a wide range of functions including delivery processes, application engineering, building custom platforms and doing consulting and analysis.

“Companies engage with us to solve hard problems, make big changes and to guide their teams,” Jon Stockdill, chief technology officer of Kenzan, told Rhode Island Inno. “For Kenzan, whether it’s a media, telecommunications, finance, health care or other industries, the kinds of organizations we work with are willing to invest in technology as a part of their business strategy, not just as IT support.”

For example, Kenzan helped a major cable company that wanted to augment their digital platform by establishing a vigorous cross-platform presence to live-stream content.

This process included regionalizing electronic program guides and emergency alert systems, creating digital video recorder control integration for a smoother customer experience and helping their client integrate billing to better manage their business.

In another instance, Kenzan helped a Fortune 500 company transform its existing infrastructure and data center stack to a fully cloud-based system, with zero interruption to workflow.

The company started by conducting a thorough evaluation of the existing environment, then added total development and quality assurance resources and implemented processes and procedures to facilitate managing the environment reliably across all of the client’s offices.

The result was a cloud-friendly and fully elastic solution that met the client’s ever-changing needs, while substantially reducing their overall software development overhead costs.

Kenzan originally launched in 2004 in New York City, providing software development and consulting to large cable companies. In 2010, it moved to Pawtucket because the city and Rhode Island offered a great place to live, raise a family and build a community — one that Kenzan welcomes into its office every month when it opens its doors to the public for its tech meetup called Cloud Rhode Island.

“Of our first five employees that were hired here, four are still growing with us and are now leaders in the community,” said Stockdill. “The tech community is growing fast here and we’re excited to be a part of it, share what we’ve learned and to build a diverse, inclusive community.”

In the future, Kenzan hopes to keep pushing the limit on innovative technological solutions. But part of that involves educating the business community because those are the people that actually use the technology and the processes in which they work.

“A big part of the work that we do today is really about transforming those areas of the business just as much as the client’s tech stack,” said Stockdill. “As more and more companies look to make that kind of digital transformation, we hope to be their partner to guide them through it.”
