Week One

Thursday, 10/7

Chamber Café - Chat. Connect. Collaborate: Bring your own coffee and favorite breakfast treat and join the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce at the Zoom Chamber Café, a virtual networking experience that creates connections and results in real business leads. First Thursday: The East Bay Chamber of Commerce presents East Bay Community First Thursdays on the first Thursday of each month. Shop local in Barrington, Bristol, and Warren in an informal, walkabout style event sampling local stores and restaurants in the East Bay. Visit the gallery and co-working space at Sprout Warren, see what’s new, or stop in a new business. Event begins at 5 p.m. at Sprout CoWorking in Warren. More information here.

Visit A Wind Farm: Join Green Energy Consumers to learn, visit, and even go inside and explore one of nine wind turbines at the WED Farm. Hear the story of the wind farm's history and technology, plus how our Green Powered program supports a part of the farm. Event begins at 11 a.m. at the WED Farm in Coventry. More information here.

Thursday, 10/14

Venture Cafe Networking: Join for Venture Café networking at the Venture Café Bar. There will be local beers and wines and an opportunity to engage with the startup community. Event begins at 4 p.m at District Hall. More information here.

Insurance For Startups: Join Brant McAleer, commercial lines producer for Cross Insurance, as he discusses Insurance for startups with Kerlyne Jean-Baptiste, founder and CEO of KerlyGirl. Event begins at 5 p.m. at District Hall. More information here.

Sunday, 10/17

Grid Of The Future Symposium: Sponsored by the CIGRE US National Committee (USNC) and Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), and hosted by National Grid, this year’s conference will have the theme of technology for the 21st century electric utility. It will be a forum for participants to discuss state-of-the-art innovations in generation, transmission, distribution, and innovative smart grid technologies. Event goes from Sunday to Wednesday with the venue still to be announced. More information here.

Rhode Island Blockchain Summit: Chart Your Course: Come to this facilitated workshop focusing on understanding how people can work together to leverage the benefits of Blockchain to create a dynamic new ecosystem that would bolster existing and emerging industries in Rhode Island and benefit consumers globally. Discovering The Joy Of Assistive Technology Making: The assistive technology makers’ movement and the need for quick A.T. solutions for everyday challenges continue to grow. This workshop will discuss, demonstrate, and actually build skills in A.T. Making. Participants will learn the latest in quick tips for working with everyday plastics, double-sided tapes, hook and loop, multi-purpose fasteners and more. Monday, 10/25

Dana M. Dourdeville Lecture On Engineering In Service To Society: With the growing threat of climate change and plastic waste pollution, new technologies are emerging to recycle discarded organic packaging and the CO2 from the air for novel applications in energy and sustainable materials. MacArthur Fellow Paul Dauenhauer will describe an approach to handling and storing carbon via closed loop chemical processes that result in net zero emissions to the atmosphere and the potential for complete recycling of plastics necessary for food, clothing, and medical applications. Come hear Paul talk about the design of catalyst nanomaterials to control the use of carbon in the atmosphere, water, soil, and society. Event begins at 4:30 p.m. at the Salomen Center for Teaching.
