Ocean State Update: The Biggest Rhode Island Tech & Startup News From May

Let’s take a look.

  1. Splitwise, a finance app for sharing expenses with friends and family, announced in a release that it has raised $20M in series A funding led by Insight Partners. 
  2. Datanomix, a vendor of production intelligence software for industrial manufacturers, announced in a release that it has raised $6M in series A funding. The round was co-led by Gutbrain Ventures, PBJ Capital and CEAS Investments. The funding will go to increasing Datanomix's production capabilities.
  3. Twenty-one Rhode Islanders, including innovators, entrepreneurs, clinicians and investors, graduated from the New England Medical Innovation Center’s medtech leadership program in partnership with back to work, according to a press release.
  4. NWN, a cloud communications company focused on "delivering solutions for today's working-from-anywhere environment," closed its acquisition of service provider Carousel Industries, Carousel announced in a release.
  5. Providence Business News reported Gov. Daniel J. McKee signed into law an increase in the state minimum wage to $15 an hour over the next four years.
  6. Two Robbers Hard Seltzer raised $6M in series A funding led by Brand Foundry Ventures, the company announced in a release. The funding will go to growing its consumer base as well as growing employment in Rhode Island.
  7. The Rhode Island-based accountable care organization, Integra Community Care Network, announced in a release that it plans to partner with Innovaccer, a healthcare technology company, to use the Innovaccer Health Cloud to expand its consumer base and manage patient records.
  8. ShopVue, which makes software to help manufacturing companies optimize their shop floors, announced the release of ShopVue Analytics, a dashboard tool that will allow customers to manage data that drives business decisions.
  9. Financial services giant Fidelity Investments is adding 500 jobs in Rhode Island at the Fidelity Smithfield campus, according to WPRI.
  10. John Simmons has been named president of the Rhode Island Business Coalition, a nonprofit that works on state small-business policy.
