It was quite a year for Rhode Island innovators. Gratefully, we had the opportunity to celebrate with many of you at our third annual Inno on Fire celebration in February, and the photos from that event clocked in at No. 1 in our ranking of stories by number of visits. We headed into lockdown shortly thereafter, but Ocean State entrepreneurs kept on innovating — and some actually saw their businesses boosted by the pandemic.

Some standouts from this year: Meal delivery startup Feast & Fettle, whose order volume exploded in late spring, went on to raise $1.2 million for a multi-state expansion. Intus Care, whose home health care software became crucial with the decline of in-person doctor visits, cashed in on the upswing with a $500,000 institutional seed round. Upserve, which made pivot after pivot in an effort to better serve the upside-down restaurant industry, was acquired for a cool $430 million.
