University students in Rhode Island have a new opportunity to learn the ins and outs of social enterprise thanks to a September-announced partnership between Brown University's Swearer Center and the Social Enterprise Greenhouse.

The 3-year program is aimed at undergraduates and provides hands-on training at the SEG, with the help and mentorship of a wide thought leader network. University seniors who are already developing a social venture of their own have the option to take a 1-year version of the program.

"This collaboration reinforces our commitment to community agency, allowing our students to learn directly from those in the field while creatively developing their vision, their ventures and their professional networks," said Swearer Center Executive Director Mathew Johnson.

Members of the inaugural cohort began their work in September, with SEG programming coordinated by Austin Wilson.

“We look forward to working with the first 3-year cohort as they embark on yearlong internships with seven high-potential social ventures in the SEG Network," said SEG CEO Kelly Ramirez in a statement. "We are also excited to work with and support the entrepreneurs in each of these cohorts as they launch and grow their ventures. This new fellowship is an excellent example of collaborative partnership that not only provides opportunities for the amazing young leaders who are participating, but also benefits the larger community.”
