The RI Design Hall of Fame has four new inductees for 2018.
Economic nonprofit DESIGNxRI announced that three designers were inducted into the Lifetime Achievement designation, which celebrates Rhode Island-based practitioners of excellence who have been working for more than 25 years, and one into the Emerging Designer category. The latter category is for Rhode Island-based designers who have been working in the industry for less than 15 years and “show a talent and commitment” as future design leaders.
Marc Harrison, who's many accomplishments include re-designing the Cuisinart food processor; David Pedrick, marine engineer, naval architect and principal at Pedrick Yacht Designs; and Nancy Skolos, AIGA medalist, AIGA fellow and graphic designer received the Lifetime Achievement awards; Harrison posthumously. Joe Perez, creative director and blog curation for Kanye West, was named the Emerging Designer.
They're a part of the legacy of the RI Design Hall of Fame, which was established in 2014. It ultimately "recognizes proven leaders in the Rhode Island design community for their contributions to the industry on local, national and international levels."
Design thought leaders from across New England comprised a jury that chose the recipients. Judith Anderson, MassArt; Kyla Coburn, Kyla Coburn Design; Anthony Pannozzo, frog design; Gail Ravgiala, (formerly) Design New England; Doug Reed, Reed Hilderbrand; and Kyle Sheffield, LDA Architects all served on this committee.
An event celebrating the winners will occur at the Foundry in Providence on Sept. 20. RSVP here.
