DESIGNxRI has debuted the schedule for its upcoming fifth-annual Design Week RI, which will run Sept. 13 to Sept. 22.
The 10-day event includes a host of different programs, from talks and tours, to luncheons, parties, discussions and more. All told, there are more than 35 events, covering topics from brand identity and city planning. The aim of the diverse programs is to highlight those designers and entities that are driving economic impact in the state's design sector [Check out the full calendar].
Ashleigh Axios, design exponent and head of the studio for Automattic, will keynote Design Week on Sept. 18. On Sept. 20, there will be a special induction ceremony for this year's R.I. Design Hall of Fame appointees.
The week's programming, which has boasted an average attendee rate increase of 19.5 percent year-over-year, is mostly free. Exceptions include the luncheon series ($10, lunch included), the Kick Off Party (suggested donation of $15) and the RI Design Hall of Fame party ($75 currently, $80 after Sept. 16). Proceeds go to support the event's operational costs.
Lisa Carnevale, the economic development nonprofit's executive director and founder, said in a previous interview with Rhode Island Inno that the event “show[s] the world that design is in Rhode Island."
“It took us a year and half to get there," she added, "and what it has done is created a project to help people get together.”
