The Electric & Hybrid Marine Industry's Innovation of the Year Award has a new winner: Newport and Fall River-based Power Docks.

The startup has grown in local and now international acclaim for its floating islands, dubbed "blue islands," which utilize solar technology to fully charge boats on the water.

Its win was announced at the Electric & Hybrid Marine World Expo in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, on June 29, where members of an all-star 40-member jury voted in favor of Power Docks.

"Considering the modest size and relatively young age of the company, Power Docks' achievement in this ferociously competitive category is all the more admirable," said John Thornton, editor of Electric & Hybrid Marine Technology International and co-chairman of the Electric & Hybrid Marine Awards. "But make no mistake, this first-of-its-kind floating solar dock deserves to be recognized on its own merit; it's a genuinely impressive piece of technology that has the potential to revolutionize the charging and docking capacity of marinas worldwide."

The company's founders, Anthony Baro and Chris Fagan, were honored by the recognition and look forward to Power Docks' wider influence.

“We are excited to offer environmentally friendly solutions to boaters and marine industries seeking to benefit and positively impact our environment," Fagan said.
