- The Rhode Island Executive Office of Commerce and the University of Rhode Island announced that it had received 16 responses for the Innovation Campus‘ Request for Proposal. IBM, Cambridge BioLabs and PolarisMEP and more are among dozens of companies hoping to play a role in the final project. Read the full story on Rhode Island Inno here.
- The Providence-based Sprout Coworking has completed the expansion of its flagship location. The move doubled its size, bringing the complex to 8,000 square feet. It includes seven new private offices, an eight-person meeting room and an additional hot desk space that doubles as an event space. Read the full story on Rhode Island Inno here.
- “Together RI,” a series of community meetings throughout the state, is Rhode Island Foundation’s newest offering, WPRI.com reports. The free meetings, which will provide meals, offers an opportunity for attendees to discuss both the challenges and victories that Rhode Island is facing.
- Providence-based Lifespan has announced that it will begin formal talks with Partners HealthCare and Care New England in an effort to “improve health care in Rhode Island,” The Brown Daily Herald reports. “By combining the talent, experience and resources of our like-minded, provider-based organizations, we envision creating a national model that fully leverages the integration and coordination of care,” the entities said in a joint statement.
- 97 percent of CVS Health Corp and Aetna shareholders approved CVS’s $69 billion acquisition of the health care company, the US News & World Report states. Up next? The approval of federal regulators.
- Food-business incubator Hope & Main and food technology company Crave Food Systems have debuted the Hope & Main app, Providence Journal reports. The app allows users to order food online or schedule delivery or pickups.
- Two pieces of news regarding Providence Equity Partners: Axios’ Pro Rata newsletter reports that the firm will sell its stake in Indonesian telecom infrastructure company KIN to Protelindo, “the largest independent owner and operator of wireless infrastructure in Indonesia.” Then, PEP portfolio Anju Software Inc. has acquired the assets of Newton, Penn.-based Sylogent, a “provider of software and business services for the pharmaceutical industry,” Fortune’s Term Sheet newsletter reports. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
- The U.S. Department of Justice has awarded the Providence Police Department with $700,000 as a part of the Smart Policing Initiative: Smart Policing Innovation Grant, the Providence Business News reports. The funding will go towards the PPD and the Providence Center to establish a “Behavioral Health Response Team.”
- Go Wireless Inc. has received $50 million in financing from Citizens Bank, the Providence Business News reports.
