Round one of Rhody's Tech Madness is complete!

What’s Tech Madness, you ask? It’s a reader-driven bracket competition a la March Madness that aims to champion and highlight local startups — 32 of them, to be exact, and they’ll face off bracket-style over the next few weeks until the winner is determined. See the whole bracket here.

Its first round garnered a ton of votes from readers like you, resulting in tight matches and intense competition. Here’s some stats: ChartWise Medical Systems beat IlluminOss Medical by a two vote margin. NanoSteel won over Premama by a two vote margin. And EpiVax beat out Datarista by (you guessed it) a two vote margin.

Three of the four No. 1 seeds are advancing to the next trial, but there was also an underdog story, too; eight-seed Tizra pulled through to the second round.

Now we’re moving on to the Sweet 16, with the next round closing Saturday, March 31 at 11:59 p.m. Make sure to rally behind your favorite startup on social, during conversations with friends and of course, with your votes, so that it progresses to the next round.

Coming into Tech Madness blind and unsure who to give your support to? Ask yourself, “who would I invest in?” This answer is, by design, subjective. It could be based on who you think will generate the greatest return, or whose mission is most aligned with your values and interests or who you’re simply rooting for. However you interpret that question is correct! Just remember, Tech Madness is about voting for one company and not against another.

Vote on!
