This morning, Gov. Gina Raimondo announced that consulting and technology company Infosys has entered into a "multi-year partnership" with Rhode Island to bring 500 jobs to the state over the next five years as part of its new Infosys Design and Innovation Hub.

“We are excited to welcome Infosys to Rhode Island,” Raimondo said in an Infosys press release. “Because of our investments in higher education and job training at [Community College Rhode Island] and other institutions across the state, Rhode Islanders are well-equipped and well-prepared to compete for these good paying jobs. Infosys joins a growing local market of innovative, advanced industry companies that have chosen to plant a flag in Rhode Island.”

The move is part of Infosys' push to increase its American-based workforce by 10,000 in the next two years.

“Today’s partnership with Rhode Island marks another important step forward for Infosys in the United States," said Infosys President Ravi Kumar. "The state’s educational institutions, design-rich environment, and economic development tools, positioned Rhode Island competitively for this type of specialist partnership."

He added that Infosys' in-state access these resources will be integral to the company's future innovative efforts.

It's not the only company to make such overtures: In August, eMoney Advisor announced a new office in Providence and the intention to create 100 new in-state jobs by 2020, and wellness tech company Virgin Pulse last week stated it would move its global headquarters to Providence.

"This is a big win for Rhode Island, as Infosys could have chosen anywhere to open this Design and Innovation Hub," said Rhode Island Commerce Secretary Stefan Pryor. "In choosing Rhode Island, this global company has discovered what we already know — that the Ocean State is full of tech-ready and design talent, is home to top-tier universities, and is a great place to do business. We're proud that Infosys is the 22nd company landing or expanding in Rhode Island with support from our economic development programs."

This is a developing story. Updates will be included once they become available.

Disclosure: eMoney is a founding partner of Rhode Island Inno.
