Last Thursday, Rhode Island Inno took to Sprout CoWorking in Providence to talk about giving back. 'Tis the season, after all.
Anchored by a panel of thought leaders, the installment in Rhody Inno's State of Innovation series had two goals: The first, to highlight how startups and entrepreneurs back philanthropic efforts into the work they do. The second, to help attendees better understand how they too can lean into giving back as they develop entrepreneurial initiatives of their own.
Yours truly moderated the event, and was joined onstage by Arnell Milhouse, co-founder of CareerDevs University and one of Brown University's current entrepreneurs in residence; Lanna Nawa, founder of Impact Everything; and Eric Bai, co-founder of TextUp.
The conversation spanned many concepts and topics, from what success looks like to those in "giving back" fields to how the work these entrepreneurs are doing has changed the ecosystem.
A collection of tweets and pictures from the event are below. But before we sign off, we’d like to thank our sponsors Cox Communications and Sprout CoWorking for helping make this event a reality.
Panelists Sound Off
- "Running a startup is sort of like building a parachute after you've already jumped out of the plane." — Arnell Milhouse
- "I feel like the word philanthropy is a pretty big word. We're trying to imbue this idea of how to build capacity through our tech tools for our community." — Eric Bai
- "Learning to make time for yourself is really important. I worked 120 hours a week and I would have meltdowns... Weekly or biweekly I would schedule time for myself." — Lanna Nawa
