Software maker SheerID has named an industry sales vet its revenue chief as new CEO Stephanie Copeland Weber builds out her management team.

Rebecca Grimes was tapped as chief revenue officer. The role has been redesigned to focus on the company’s go-to-market strategy that emphasizes both new customers and growing recurring revenue within customers.

This isn’t the first time Grimes, who is based in Chicago, and Copeland Weber have worked together. The two are both alums of virtual receptionist company Ruby. Prior to being named SheerID CEO, Copeland Weber was CEO of Ruby. Grimes spent more than three years at Ruby. She started as chief marketing officer and was then chief revenue officer for two years.

Both women were part of the team that led Ruby through a private equity acquisition in 2022.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Rebecca at Ruby, and I know firsthand her passion for building a culture of 'winning together,'" said Copeland Weber in a written statement. "Her strategic vision will be instrumental as we head into our next chapter of growth."

Grimes' career also includes leadership roles at e-commerce company Searchspring, marketing tech company Cheetah Digital and mobile engagement company Vibes.

SheerID, which is venture-backed, makes software used by brands, like Amazon, Nike and Spotify, to verify consumer identities and market discount deals to groups such as teachers, students, military and first responders.

The company has more than 200,000 authoritative data sources and digitally verifies 2.5 billion consumers for customers. SheerID’s product is white-labeled and embedded in brand websites and other consumer engagement tools.
