Portland startup Eclypsium has hired a well-known finance executive for a top job.

John Ewert becomes the cybersecurity company's CFO and COO. He’s a familiar face among the Portland startup scene: As CFO of Elemental Technologies, he prepared that company for sale to AWS.

He was also CFO and COO at payments company Nvoicepay as the company went through an acquisition by Fleetcor Co. Most recently he was CFO and COO at identity marketing company SheerID.

Prior to his work around the Portland tech community he was vice president of finance at Palo Alto Networks and led that company’s IPO in 2012.

In addition to Ewert the company also added Austin, Texas-based executive Chris Radosh as vice president of business development and global channels. Radosh was most recently managing director of U.S. federal business at cybersecurity software maker Trend Micro, where he worked for more than seven years. Prior to that company he spent more than five years at Hewlett Packard Enterprise in operations and business strategy.

Eclypsium works to make firmware, which is software programmed into devices that runs underneath the operating system and other applications, more secure. Doing so can be complicated because many different manufacturers contribute to the devices.

The company raised $25 million from investors last fall as the company gained sales momentum in the federal government and within big corporate customers.

“The strategic growth of our leadership team underscores our commitment to meeting the ever-evolving challenges our customers face,” said co-founder and CEO Yuriy Bulygin in a written statement. The new execs' “extensive cybersecurity industry experience and strategic vision they bring in their respective areas will enhance our capabilities as a company and help ensure the continued delivery of unparalleled value to our customers and stakeholders.”
