In celebration of two of Portland’s favorite industries — coffee and outdoor apparel — Deadstock Coffee and TREW Gear have teamed up for an apparel collection.
The collection features TREW’s bestselling backcountry skiing and snowboarding pieces in a limited edition black and yellow color blocking. The history of this colorway goes back to the Nike Wet Floor Dunk High SB sneaker that Deadstock’s founder, Ian Williams, designed while he worked as a custodian and moonlighting as a designer at Nike’s headquarters.
“I’ve been passionate about snowboarding at Mount Hood since I was a kid. I’ve always wanted to design a snowboard kit. It was super important to me that the kit be high quality and waterproof, something that anyone could wear and be comfortable for a day of riding at Mount Hood,” Williams said in a press release. “That’s where working with TREW came in; I knew they were making really technical stuff for the backcountry and that’s what I wanted to bring to my community.”
Williams and the founder of TREW, Chris Pew, first met as part of Built Oregon’s inaugural accelerator cohort in 2019. The two found common ground in their passion for snowboarding on Oregon’s Mount Hood and how it brings Portland’s outdoor and creative culture together, according to a press release.
“After meeting Ian in 2018, Deadstock immediately became one of my favorite brands in Portland, and it’s a coffee shop! I love how his brand is about so much more than coffee and sneakers,” Pew said in a press release. “He brings so many different parts of Portland into the brand and effortlessly combines the worlds of coffee and sneakers without any of the pretense.”
The collection, complete with a jacket, bib, beanie and more, will go live on TREW’s website and Deadstock’s Chinatown location Oct. 1. That same night, Deadstock will host a launch party starting at 6 p.m. with limited edition merchandise, free beer and, of course, coffee.
