The team at A Kids Company About is celebrating one of its collaborators this week, author Orion Jean after Jean was named Kid of the Year by Time Magazine and Nickelodeon.

Jean, an 11-year-old Texan, is the youngest author for A Kids Company About, a growing Portland-based media company. Jean wrote A Kids Book About Leadership.

The book is a collection of what Jean learned about leading after he founded the event series A Race To Kindness, which aims to spread, well, kindness in the world.

“I want others to know that they can start today. If there's an issue or problem or something that they see that they want to solve, all it takes is really just knowing deep down inside that it's something you care about, and you can go out and get started,” Jean told the magazine.

This is the second year that Time has named a Kid of the Year. In addition to Jean there were five other finalists.

“Couldn’t be more proud,” wrote A Kids Company About CEO Jelani Memory on Linkedin highlighting Jean’s award. “Our youngest author at A Kids Company About and now Time Kid of the Year.”

A Kids Company About is the parent company of A Kids Book About. These books, which are sold direct to consumer, tackle tough and meaningful subjects to help children and the adults in their lives have important conversations. The company works with a variety of authors who have lived experience and are experts in their topics.

Jean was connected to the company through another author.

“Once we met him and saw all that he'd accomplished at such a young age (we met him last year when he was 10), we knew he would have a wonderful perspective on this particular topic,” said A Kids Company About spokesperson Megan Laney.
