Beaverton data startup SkyPoint Cloud acquired Portland-based CSG Pro, a nearly 30-year-old custom software and analytics company.

The deal is meant to bring more data strategy, visualization and analytics capabilities to SkyPoint. All of CSG’s roughly 25 employees are joining SkyPoint and the combined company will have a headcount of 75.

SkyPoint was founded in 2019 and makes software used by consumer brands and health care companies to personalize experiences and drive engagement. Skypoint’s consumer data platform takes information from a variety of sources and keeps consumer data privacy at the center of the product.

For example, the Portland Timbers use SkyPoint as its data platform. The team needed a way to engage fans both inside and outside the park. Now with more digital offerings in the park, including new contactless amenities, there are more ways to gather data and personalize the fan experience, said SkyPoint CEO Tisson Mathew.

CSG is an expert in Microsoft’s cloud technology Azure, among others, and the combination will give SkyPoint that added expertise in more data layers, according to Mathew.

“CSG Pro is a market leader in unlocking the value of the Microsoft cloud data platform,” said Mathew in a written statement. “Their deep experience will change the game for SkyPoint clients — enabling them to onboard seamlessly and power all of their applications, analytics and tools with rich, accurate customer data.”

SkyPoint started as a way for Mathew to bridge two elements of his career that at first seem distinct but are actually closer linked. Mathew spent two years at Amazon as director of engineering with Prime Now. He then spent two years as chief technology officer at Cambia Health Solutions and two years as CTO of Alignment Healthcare.

“Every health care company want to be more consumer-oriented. And consumer companies want to keep their data better,” he said, adding that at Amazon he saw the importance of data for better consumer experiences and that health care organizations know the importance of privacy.

SkyPoint’s platform is what he wanted when he was a buyer of software platforms.

The startup has raised $2.5 million from investors. Its backers include Formation Capital of Atlanta and Portland Seed Fund.

Mathew was looking for acquisition targets to drive growth when the team identified CSG.

“We’re proud to be joining forces with SkyPoint,” said CSG Pro CEO Ron Ellis Gaut in a written statement. “Across industries, our clients are universally seeking to build more data-driven relationships with their customers — while safeguarding the privacy of customer data. And as part of the SkyPoint team, we know that we can help them deliver on that vision.”

CSG customers will now have options for SkyPoint’s technology, said Mathew. The company now has combined customer base of 70. Mathew also noted CSG has an active business intelligence community and he is pleased to bring that into SkyPoint as well.

“We wanted the right partner who has a strong sense of community and customer focus and building apps and solving customer problems,” he said.
