This week, Portland entrepreneur Luke Kanies said he is winding down his startup Clickety.

In a blog post, Customer Success Manager Trip Longworth outlined the tough decision and concluded with this: “It sucks to close down. But we are prioritizing the health of our team members, which is the right choice, even if it’s sad, difficult and a little scary.”

Clickety was started in 2019. It grew from Kanies' own experience as a founder and CEO at Puppet and his search for better ways to help himself manage relationships. Kanies started Puppet in 2005 and stepped down as CEO of the high-profile Portland company in 2016.

For Clickety, Kanies raised about $2 million from investors in 2019. As of this summer the startup had a team of six and was working toward general availability of the tool. The company’s relationship management software was being used by a couple hundred early users, Kanies said earlier this summer.

The Clickety app will no longer exist after Sept. 10. Early users can request a file containing all their Clickety memberships, comments and notes. The team also included links to other companies that are working in a similar space.

As PIE General Manager Rick Turoczy, and Clickety user, put on his blog: “Startups are always difficult. And risky. Building them in the midst of a global pandemic makes them even harder. These past two years have been a lot. For all of us.”
