Brave Care, the Portland-based pediatric urgent and primary care provider, announced Thursday it has raised a $25 million funding round, which will fuel an ambitious nationwide expansion.

Mednax (NYSE: MD), a national medical group and provider of physician services based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, led the Series B round.

Brave Care currently operates two clinics in Portland and one in Fayetteville, North Carolina, with locations in Beaverton and Austin, Texas, slated to open by the end of the year. CEO Darius Monsef said the plan is to add 100 more clinics in partnership with Mednax’s Pediatrix Medical Group over the next three years.

“Our plan is to keep opening clinics and build the technology to power them,” Monsef said. “This Series B being led by Mednax means we’re getting a partner doing important pediatric care who wanted to do primary and urgent care.”

Mednax operates pediatric ICUs and specialty clinics across the country. CEO Mark Ordan said he visited a Brave Care clinic last summer.

“We believe that Brave’s team, proprietary technology and comprehensive suite of services and operating systems will help enable us to provide an amazing continuum of patient-first care and a one-of-a-kind patient and family experience,” Ordan said. “This is another major step to solidify our focus as the leader in women’s and children’s specialty services.”

Brave Care clinics are open 12 hours a day, with remote care available around the clock through a nurse line and mobile app. Dr. Corey Fish founded the clinic with a single location on Northeast Sandy Boulevard in 2018, with a goal of treating 75% of what can be done in an ER at a much lower cost. It has raised $43 million and has 85 employees.
